  • 5. These Hollow Vows by Lexi Ryan
  • 4. A Light in the Flame by Jennifer Armentrout
  • 3. Hotel Magnifique by Emily J. Taylor
  • 2. Little Thieves by Margaret Owen
  • 1. From the Mouths of Sirens by Abigail Hair

Two of my favorite things are summer time and fantasy books. Summer as a kid was a time for adventure, magic, and feeling alive. It was the time of year that I had the most time to devote to reading the books that I truly wanted to read instead of those that were assigned. My mom would take us down to the library and let us get as many books as our little hearts desired. Completing reading challenge after reading challenge, almost every book I choose was of the fantasy genre. And to this day, I read a ton of fantasy novels during the summer season. This season is great for fantasy reads, and the perfect time to add a few to your bookshelf.

For those who loved the ACOTAR series, this book is going to be right up your alley. Brie hates the Fae and anything to do with magic. But when her sister is sold to the unseelie court, she will do anything to get her back-even if it means working with them. Traveling from one court to the next on a hunt for 3 magical relics, she is torn between her hatred for the Fae and realizing that they may not be as evil as she previously thought. With a deadline fast approaching to save her sister, Brie has to find the relics and steal them before she loses her forever. But how will she pull it off? And what consequences will it have for the friends she makes on the way?

4. A Light in the Flame by Jennifer Armentrout

This is actually the second in a series, so if you are intrigued check out book 1, A Shadow in the Ember. A Light in the Flame picks up right after the events of the previous novel. Armed with her sense of morals and a determination to kill a false king of the Gods, Sera’s plan has been exposed. Time is running out fast for her, and her ascension is near- that is, if she can make it there in time. There is a lot at stake, everyone is out to get her and she only has herself, for without Nyktos love (something he is incapable of feeling), she has not hope of ascending.

3. Hotel Magnifique by Emily J. Taylor

Realizing that her dream of experiencing more than just the walls around her is just that, a dream, Jani has finally consented to her life of working in the tannery and taking care of her little sister. But when the Hotel Magnifique comes to town, the sisters are excited.

Known for traveling through time and space, appearing in a new town each night, the hotel is full of exciting and wonderful enchantments. Not having the funds to pay to be a guest there, the girls decide they can apply to work in the hotel instead in order to gain access. But what they soon come to realize is that the contracts are binding…forever, and not everything is as it seems. Jani will need to do her own discovering to find out what’s happened to her sister and what in the world is happening in the Hotel Magnifique?

2. Little Thieves by Margaret Owen

Nothing is given to you for free, apparently not even your mother’s love. Vanja Schmidt learned this the hard way. Instead of paying the price demanded of her from her, she decides to do something terrible in order to take her life back in her own hands. She is the goddaughter of death and fortune, and is being asked to pay for their care over the years.

For the past few years she has been the dutiful servant of Princess Gisel, but after death and fortune come for her she makes the choice to steal Gisel’s life. By using magic pearls, Vanja swaps their lives and manages to make her escape. Living her new double life, she steals from the rich and gets closer to her goal every day. That is, until she steals from the wrong god… her freedom was so close, but instead she wound up cursed. With a two week deadline to break her curse or face even more consequences, she is running out of time, friends, and ideas.

1. From the Mouths of Sirens by Abigail Hair

If you were to take the Hunger Games and The Little Mermaid and mash them together, From the Mouths of Sirens would be it. From mer-kings to sea witches to a violent tournament to the death, this book has it all. Plot twists, adventure, danger, rivalry and working with your enemy, this is a fantasy lovers mashup. When our main character is given the chance to take part in a competition with the winner ruling the entire kingdom, she has a lot of stake. The odds are stacked against her from the beginning, and she’ll need to work against all odds to win… for good.

Fantasy is great at any time of year, but a fun and action packed fantasy novel read during the summer season is another sort of special, don’t you think? Here’s to heat, happiness, and great reads.
