Silo season 2 is coming in less than 2 months! If you were unaware of that, I really hope that you’ve at least finished watching the first season of the Apple TV+ show. If not, you have at least until November 15th, 2024 to catch up, as this is when the second season is going to be released.

Note
This informational article on Silo season 2 has been updated on October 14th, 2024 in order to add additional information about the season 2 trailer.

What To Expect In Silo Season 2?

silo season 2 release date feature

Silo season 2 will start off with a very interesting plot twist, as we’ve learned from an interview with one of the showrunners, Graham Yost. In this interview, he gave very interesting plot information about the first few episodes of the second season.

Juliette is not dead! This we know for sure as she is the main character of the show, but this has also been confirmed by Graham Yost in his interview about the second season. Juliette ventures outside and survives the toxic air with the help of the better tape that is used to build her suit.

Because of this, she is able to last much longer outside and discovers that;

  1. The outside world is dead and toxic.
    • We learn this with her once the visor that was displaying a fake environment fails and she is able to see the real world.
  2. She makes it over the hill and not far away from her is another silo towards which she starts to walk.
    • This is the main plot point of Silo season 2, her adventure into this new silo, and her story of survival.

What Happened In Silo 17?

— ali (@evialivea) September 11, 2024

From the same interview and if you’ve read the books, we know that Juliette ventures into a neighboring silo, Silo 17. This is a new silo that has seen a revolution and almost all of its occupants went outside, not believing that the air was toxic.

We will learn of the story and history of Silo 17, how that revolution happened, and what happened after. We will also meet a new character, Solo.

Graham Yost did explain that the first few episodes of the new season will be split between the story of the original silo, Silo 18, and this new one Silo 17. We will be presented with a flashback of the Silo 17, how the rebellion happened, and what happened to the silo afterward.

We also know, in confirmed interviews with Rebecca Ferguson, that she spent a lot of time filming in or underwater. This follows the plot of the book where Silo 17 is partially flooded and for her to get through it and get certain functions of the silo to work again, she spends a lot of time in water.

Silo Season 2 Trailer

With only a month away from the release of the second season, Apple TV+ has finally dropped the trailer for Silo season 2.

The trailer shows exactly what we are expecting from the second season. Juliette is alive! However, in her original silo, Silo 18, a rebellion is brewing since her voluntary ask to go outside.

Bernard is trying to tell everyone that she is dead, but everyone in the silo saw her cross the hill which no one has ever done before (thanks to the tape and the help of her friends from mechanical) and because of that, people in Silo 18 believe that she is alive. A rebellion rumor is starting to form.

On the other side of the door, Juliette manages to reach Silo 17, the neighboring silo, and gets inside to safety. The silo is abandoned after a failed rebellion from a long time ago. Nothing is left in that silo, only 1 person, Solo.

Solo is the eyes of a man we quickly see in the trailer that tells Juliette that if she opens that door, he will kill her.

Solo is played by Steve Zahn and is a full-grown man with the mind of a 10-year-old, more on his character just a bit later.

Silo Season 2 Plot

Silo‘s second season plot will majorly be centered in two different locations; the original Silo 18 and the new Silo 17. It will also revolve around the main characters; Juliette, Solo, and the gang at Silo 18.

With Juliette, we will see how she manages to survive the outside and get by the security defenses in Silo 17. We will also learn a bit about the history of this silo and what happened to it.

We will be following Juliette as she meets Solo and they have to restore some of the vital functions of the silo in order to survive, learn more about the secrets of the group controlling the silos as well as her trying to get back to her original silo.

In the original silo, we will be following the developments of Juliette going outside and surviving, how it impacts the rest of the population, and the brewing rebellion that is starting to heat up!

Cast And Characters

silo seasons 2 poster

With the return of the second season, we’ve got an announcement, during the release date announcement of Silo season 2, that Steve Zahn will be joining the cast. However, it was not said which character he would play.

If you’ve read the books, you know that the only possible character that he could play is Solo!

Who Is Solo?

After the rebellion in Silo 17, where Juliette ends up after the finale of season one, we learn that almost everyone tried to go outside and died in the poisonous air. Some people survived but did not last long. The only real survivor is Steve Zahn’s character.

Solo, as dubbed by Juliette when they meet, was a child during the rebellion years ago and now is a full-grown man, but with the mind of a 10-year-old. Since he has been left alone all this time, he did not get a proper education and was left to fend on his own.

Rest Of The Cast

The rest of the cast stays the same with the main characters coming back in season two such as; Juliette Nichols, Bernard Holland, Deputy Marnes, Robert Sims, Martha Walker, and others.

Silo Season 3 And 4

Despite the fact that there has been no official announcement on the renewal of Silo for season 3 and beyond, we learned in an interview with Rebecca Ferguson that they are looking to green-light and film seasons 3 and 4 at the same time.

There are 3 books in total, so it is logical to reason that there will be at least 3 seasons. Since the latter books have a lot of development and story, it is also logical to reason that it will be split into 2 seasons.

How To Catch Up

Keeping it short and to the point, before we get into the most important parts, Silo is a dystopian sci-fi series book adaptation on Apple TV+ based on Hugh Howey’s books; Wool, Shift, and Dust.

It’s set in a future where humanity lives in a vast underground silo, believing the outside world is toxic. The show follows characters, mainly engineer Juliette Nichols, as they uncover secrets about their confined society and the true nature of their world. It blends mystery, thriller, and sci-fi elements, exploring survival, power, and truth themes.

Well, the great thing is that we already know some, or partial, answers to those questions with the preview, interviews, and information that we’ve gathered about Silo season 2.
