If you are a fan of horror and science fiction, you most likely know and have read David Wellington’s work. David Wellington is mostly known for his zombie and vampire horror novels but has recently expanded into the horror & sci-fi genre.
Update:
The title of the second book Revenant-X is in reference to a character in the story, although he/she has not been called as such in the story. David said that it was always meant to be a trilogy, ever since the first book, Paradise-1 was written. The last book, of the trilogy called Red Space, is currently in early development, however does not even have a title yet.
He wrote The Last Astronaut in 2019 and followed it up with Paradise-1 in 2023, both incredible blends of horror and science fiction genres. Just recently, Orbit Books, the initial publisher of Paradise-1, has Tweeted that a new book by David Wellington is going to be released on November 5th, 2024; Revenant-X!
What Is Revenant-X About?
I had the chance and pleasure to talk to David Wellington about his upcoming book and was able to get some information about the story, characters, and setting.
Revenant-X is part of a trilogy that he is working on called Red Space. It is the second book directly following Paradise-1, released in 2023. The story follows the crew of Artemis from Paradise-1 who have survived the onslaught of the previous book. They are now continuing the mission to understand what has happened to the now-silent human colony of Paradise-1.
Revenant-X is going to be all about how the crew of Artemis attempts to survive the surface of the planet and what survivors remain of the colony, which are not human! This could be a mix of the zombie (or alike) genre that has been integrated into the story. Since Wellington has written numerous novels and stories about zombies, it stands to reason that he would integrate what he knows into his current trilogy.

Blurb from the publisher
Revenant-X is the terrifying second novel in a new trilogy of survival and exploration in deep space, from Arthur C. Clarke Award-nominated author David Wellington.
FEAR THE DARK.
The crew of the Artemis – led by Firewatch agent Alexandra Petrova – have survived the furious onslaught of the Basilisk and broken through the space blockade around Paradise-1. Now they can pursue their original mission and investigate why Earth’s first deep space colony has fallen silent. The answer seems obvious: the site is deserted.
Or so they think.
Some of the colonists remain… but they’re no longer human. Petrova and her crew now face a desperate struggle to survive as they attempt to uncover the mystery of what has befallen the colony. If they fail, the darkness that has fallen over Paradise-1 will consume them.
