August is here, and with it comes one of our favourite genres of the year: Young Adult fiction! All throughout the month we’ll be deep diving into some great-or sometimes not-adaptations of young adult literature, as well as a look into the genre’s massive success and its current status.
Looks like we’re capping the month off with a doozy folks. This week, we’re tackling teen dramas, specifically focusing on the completely unnecessary-and potentially harmful-romanticization of death in YA films. We watched a double header for this one; 2014’s If I Stay and 2017’s Before I Fall, which are arguably the same film. We put ourselves through this, and now you all get to hear our deepest regret about it. TW: bullying, suicide, and general teen romance tropes.
