August has arrived, and with it comes one of our favourite genres of the year: Young Adult fiction! All throughout the month we’ll be deep diving into some great-or sometimes not-adaptations of young adult literature, as well as a look into the genre’s massive success and its current status.
Kicking things off is one of many attempts to recreate the success of the Twilight Saga, with the 2013 adaptation of City of Bones. The Mortal Instruments book series is a well built fantasy world consisting of several installments and complex characters. This adaptation of City of Bones may include an all star cast, but not even everyone’s favourite Vecna could save this one.
Starring Jamie Campbell Bower, Lily Collins and Lena Headey (and that’s only the beginning), City of Bones is the franchise that never came to be. Instead, we got underdeveloped characters, convoluted plot lines, and the weirdest instance of potential incest in a modern film. Basically it’s a good time; join us!
