Waiting for the next ACOTAR book feels like standing at the edge of a cliff. You know the drop is coming, but there’s no telling when. If you’re anything like me, you’ve been refreshing every update, scanning interviews, social media posts, and Bloomsbury corporate meetings, and hoping Sarah J. Maas tosses us even the tiniest crumb about what’s next. Because let’s be honest… five books later, we’re not just invested. We’re in.

Ever since A Court of Silver Flames gave us Nesta’s story, fans have been dying to know who’s up next. Rumors, theories, and Twitter threads have been running wild. And while Maas keeps the juiciest plot points under wraps, she has shared, here and there, some key info. Enough to make us squeal, speculate, and maybe cry a little.

So if you’re trying to figure out what’s fact and what’s just wishful thinking, I’ve got you. I’ve gathered every legit quote, confirmed detail, and subtle clue into one place. Whether you’re Team Elain, still mourning Suriel, or just desperate for more Illyrian angst, here’s what we actually know about A Court of Thorns and Roses book 6.

Get ready. Because it’s happening. And it’s going to be big.

ACOTAR Book 6 Is Finished!

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Sarah J. Maas (@sarahjmaas)

In a blink‑and‑you’ll‑miss‑it Instagram reel posted on July 11, Sarah J. Maas snaps her draft notebook shut, the cover boldly marked “ACOTAR 6”, then folds her laptop with a satisfied thud.

She reaches for a chilled bottle, pops the champagne, and lets the fizz do the talking while the caption on her post reads “First drafts DONE.”

The whole clip lasts only seconds, but the meaning is crystal clear: the next journey to Prythian just leapt from dream to completed manuscript, and fans are already lighting up the comments with celebration.

The Sixth Book Is Confirmed

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Sarah J. Maas (@sarahjmaas)

In a January 2024 interview on TODAY, Sarah J. Maas made it official: the next book she’s working on is ACOTAR book 6.

The next [book] I’m supposed to be writing right now…I know much more about. That’s gonna be the next Court of Thorns and Roses book

And that’s not all. She also casually mentioned that she has loose ideas for a seventh installment. So yeah, this isn’t wrapping up anytime soon, and we’re not complaining.

Oh, and she also basically confirmed that she is writing it right now in one of her latest Instagram posts, where she said:

Went up North to write for a while.🌲🏔️🌲 #ACOwhattt #draftingmodeactivated

It’s (Almost Definitely) About Elain

@aibookrealms Elain Archeron🌸 ACOTAR Theories 📚What’s next for her? I would love to have your opinions and theories!!#elainarcheron #elainandlucien #elriel #acotartheories #creatorsearchinsights ♬ Ethereal – Txmy

This one’s been a long time coming. Fans have been theorizing about Elain Archeron getting her own book for years, and Maas hasn’t exactly been subtle.

During a 2021 Instagram Live, she teased:

I know who it’s about… I thought it was pretty obvious!

In a September 2022 LiveTalksLA interview, she talked more openly about Elain’s future.

As soon as Nesta and Elain came back onto the page in A Court of Mist and Fury, I knew they would have journeys beyond what the readers were seeing. They were in the middle of their own journeys.

Even as far back as 2018, Maas hinted at her connection to Elain’s character. In the Q&A section of A Court of Frost and Starlight, she said she’d been slipping into Elain’s mindset while gardening, calling it “research” for Elain’s eventual book.

She’s been planting seeds, literally and figuratively, for a while.

If you were worried this would be another side story or bridge book, don’t be. In a December 2024 Spotify Wrapped video, Maas confirmed it’s going to be a proper chunky read.

No surprise, it’s going to be a long book.

Big emotional stakes, complicated dynamics, lots of pages to cry over? Bring it on.

Maas Has Been Working On It For Years

In a September 2023 interview, she shared that she’s deep in the drafting process and completely absorbed by the story.

I am working on the next ACOTAR novel. I’m drafting it… I’ve become so focused and obsessed with writing this book.

When an author says she’s “obsessed,” you know it’s going to be intense.

In classic Maas fashion, she’s keeping spoilers close to the chest. When asked directly, her answer was simple:

It’s too early for me to tell you… what’s going to happen.

That hasn’t stopped fans from spinning theories about Lucien, Azriel, the Cauldron, and everything in between. But for now, all we’ve got are breadcrumbs, and one big, hopeful guess that Elain’s long-awaited story is finally ready to bloom.

There Is Going To Be ACOTAR Book 7!

From the author’s mouth straight to your ears, Maas is planning on writing ACOTAR book 7.

I know much more about what’s happening in this [sixth ACOTAR book] … And then the next book in that series, I have the ideas and general, vague thoughts. But the nitty-gritty of writing and the emotional journeys with the characters — I usually love to go on those journeys with them.

Until we get a cover reveal or an official release date, all we can do is hang on to these clues and keep rereading the series like it’s our full-time job. Whether you’re excited, anxious, or just really need to know what Elain’s deal is, one thing’s clear: ACOTAR Book Six is coming, and it’s going to shake things up.
