What Happens At The End Of Silo Season 2?

silo season 2 ending

Silo’s Season 2 finale is another cliffhanger that just left everyone wanting more. The cutaway at the most important moment had everyone screaming at the screen, but the next scene also gave us a better idea of what might be coming in season 3.

At the end of Silo Season 2, we learn that the plan to blow up the reactor was a ruse done by the characters of the down deep. They wanted to have all of the forces down at the reactor level so that they could take over the top. They exploded the stairs between levels 90 and 92 to cut off access to everyone below them.

This allowed them to have access to the upper levels and to the vault. However, Lukas Kyle discovered a pipe on the lowermost levels of the Silo. This pipe had a voice that spoke to him about the “safeguard” (which we will explain just below).

Lukas joined Bernard and told him about the “safeguard” which made him realize that his silo, silo 18, was already dead or set to be terminated. This is because his key with the number 18 on it, stopped glowing. When a key of the silo stops glowing, this is because it is deemed to be scheduled for termination by the “safeguard” and it will pump poisonous air into the silo, effectively killing everyone.

While all of this is happening, Juliette is able to make it back to Silo 18! Everyone can see her on the screen and this stops the rebellion.

Bernard decides to go outside since he is thinking that the silo will be destroyed anyways at any moment. As he is walking outside of the antechamber, Juliette joins him wanting to go back inside.

In an unfortunate twist of events, both of them end up in the antechamber which starts to burn. The burning is a purge system that is supposed to happen if the outer door is open in order to kill all of the poisonous air from outside. The season ends with Juliette and Bernard burning in the antechamber of Silo 18.

Are Juliette And Bernard Dead?

As far as we know, Juliette will not die. In an interview, Graham Yost said that Juliette still plays a big role in Silo season 3. It is also safe to say that she is not dead because she is wearing a firefighter suit and not a normal cleaning suit like what Bernard is wearing.

Given that fact, Juliette will survive the ending of season 2. However, this is not something that we can say about Bernard, as he is wearing a normal suit that is not fire-resistant, and he will most likely die in the antechamber.

What Is The “Safeguard”?

The “safeguard” is a system designed by the founder of the silos, which prevents different silos from communicating or reaching each other. If anyone attempts to cross the pipe at the lowest levels of the silo or tries to get to another neighboring silo, the “safeguard” is triggered and the whole silo is filled with poisonous air and kills everyone.

The safeguard is also something that can be triggered by Silo 1, which is the HQ or the main Silo that oversees all of the other 50 silos.
