Everyone has been eagerly awaiting the start of the second season of Silo for the past 18 months and it’s finally here! We’ve heard so many interesting and intriguing stories that are supposed to happen in the second season; from interviews with the show creators to the main character of the show discussing possible fan theories and hints being dropped here and there, that everyone has been on edge in the last few days with anticipation.

Well, rest assured that the first episode of Silo season 2 also does not disappoint in terms of action, suspense, and mystery. As mentioned by Graham Yost, one of the showrunners on Silo, the second season will be darker and will start with a duology of storytelling; part of the story will be from Silo 17 and part of it will be from Silo 18, the original Silo where Juliette was cast out from.

Silo 17 Rebellion Explained

silo season 2 episode 1 rebellion

Silo‘s season 2 first episode starts off with some background insight into the past of Silo 17, where Juliette is headed after being cast out to clean at the end of Silo season 1.

Silo 17 had its own rebellion a few years ago which did not end well. In a similar story to what is happening with Silo 18 and Juliette uncovering the conspiracy of IT and the outside not being what they tell everyone to be, the people in Silo 17 had their own revelation and decided to break free of the oppression and venture outside.

They believed that IT was lying to them and that the air and the outside world were normal and livable. This is something that we found out to not be true at the end of the first season as we see Juliette walking outside. The world is, in fact, a wasteland.

silo season 2 episode 1 outside

Hundreds of people followed the sheriff of Silo 17 and perished outside… There are bodies all over the doors to Silo 17. Some of them are trying to go forward as seen by the flag that the sheriff was carrying which ended up pretty far out from the door. In contrast, some of them were actually trying to get back into the silo as they started to be poisoned by the air outside.

This is important to mention for the future development of the character and story in Silo season 2; Juliette’s resourcefulness! As we see in the premiere, she is not only perseverent but also resourceful.

She finds herself at the precipice of a bridge, which was presumably destroyed during the rebellion. She needs to cross the said bridge and fails the first time as the rope snaps under the weight due to the fact that it was very old.

We then learn two very important things for the second season of Silo;

  1. Silo 17 is half flooded with water
  2. Juliette is more resourceful than we think
View on Threads

The silo being flooded with water is something we knew about from an interview with Rebecca Furguson, where she mentioned that she spent a lot of time filming in water during the second season.

The other important thing is very clearly shown when Juliette is able to build an almost full-fledged bridge to get her across the chasm safely! This is further reinforced by flashbacks to when she was young and started working with Walker on fixing and repairing things sent to recycling.

All of those things are going to be very important to the development of the second season due to what happens in the second book of the Silo trilogy.

Who Is The Mystery Character At The End Of Episode 1?

silo season 2 steve zahn solo character feature

At the end of the episode, Juliette learns that she is not alone. During her time at Silo 17, she suspects that she might not be alone and that is confirmed when she hears music coming from a deeper part of the silo.

She follows the music and is faced with a closed door that seems to be abandoned. We quickly learn that that door is closed on purpose because there is a man behind and he threatens to kill her if she tries to open the door again!

Major spoilers ahead.

This new character is Solo. Juliette gives him this name after they become friends and start helping each other. Solo is played by Steve Zahn who was announced to be joining the cast back in July at SDCC.

RelatedWho Is Steve Zahn’s Character In Silo Season 2?

Solo’s real name is Jimmy Parker, who is a survivor of the last rebellion of Silo 17 which we saw at the start of the episode. He is a 30-or-so-year-old man with the mind of a 10-year-old. This is due to the fact that his parents were part of the rebellion and went outside. He was left alone and did not get a chance to be properly raised and developed as a person; no education, no real human contact, only survival.

Juliette and Solo will form an amazing bond and friendship as they explore the lower and flooded levels of Silo 17 during the rest of season 2. A true story of perseverance and survival awaits our heroes.
