It’s July! That means it’s time for us to kick off beach reads month, and we’re diving in headfirst. For the entire month, we’ll be chatting about our favourites, questionable favourites, and what beach reads mean to us as readers.
And what better way to explore the nitty gritty of this subgenre than by talking about one of its quintessential branches: sappy romance. We’re changing things up a little bit this week, and ranking not one, not two, but five Nicholas Sparks adaptations. As possibly the king of sappy romance beach reads, it would have been impossible to choose only one from his lovelorn library, so we’re ranking his film adaptations from decadent to barely tolerable. Who knows, we may even have a laughable honorable mention to throw onto the pile. Nicholas Sparks adaptations are their own subset of romance. Get ready for lingering looks, people laughing on the beach, and accents that seem to come and go.
We hope you’re enjoying Beach Reads month! Be sure to check out all of our coverage of the genre over at https://fully-booked.ca/. We’re a listener supported podcast!
