It’s Nonfiction November, bookworms! This month, we’re delving into the world of true stories, wild memoirs, and everything in between. Nonfiction can sometimes be considered a boring genre, but the world is filled with all sorts of fascinating tales just waiting to be put onto paper, don’t you think? All throughout the month of November, we’ll be chatting about an underappreciated genre, one which has given us far more film adaptations that we’re aware of.
With an uptick in true crime adaptations lately, it was only a matter of time before the infamous Jeffrey Dahmer was given his time in the spotlight. With this year’s Netflix release of Dahmer, audiences have been given a front row seat into the mind and crimes of one of the worlds most nefarious murderers. This week, we decided to take a look at a portrait of Dahmer as a younger man, with 2017’s My Friend Dahmer. A quietly chilling view of Dahmer’s high school years, based on the graphic novel created by a school friend, My Friend Dahmer poses the questions of what neglect can do to a young mind, and when a fantasy crosses the line.
