It’s Nonfiction November, bookworms! This month, we’re delving into the world of true stories, wild memoirs, and everything in between. Nonfiction can sometimes be considered a boring genre, but the world is filled with all sorts of fascinating tales just waiting to be put onto paper, don’t you think? All throughout the month of November, we’ll be chatting about an underappreciated genre, one which has given us far more film adaptations that we’re aware of.
This week, we’re talking about an adaptation of a truly spine-chilling nature: finance. In the mid 2000s, a small group of experts foresaw the financial crash of 2008, and all went about different ways of trying to warn about-or exploit-the situation. Their wild tale was first written about, and then got the big screen treatment in 2015, becoming the Oscar nominated film The Big Short. With an all star cast, this dramedy breaks down one of the worst financial crises in modern history for the everyman. While not perfect, this nonfiction adaptation keeps your attention, which is more than most of us can hope for when we step into a bank, amirite?
